The Party’s Over

The Party’s Over – Jacqueline Nash

I know the party’s almost over,
my shoes abandoned on the floor.
I lay here in the quietness
and know I’ll dance no more.

Fancy dresses in the wardrobe
awaiting parties to be worn,
redundantly they hang there,
no more to twirl till dawn.

My glass it stands there empty
but please raise a glass for me,
in memory of the good times
when we partied happily.

I close my eyes and remember
all the joyful times I’ve had;
no reason to be downhearted,
there’s no reason to feel sad.

With my family all around me
and many a caring friend,
I’ll just slip away very quietly
now the party has reached it’s end.
